Shootout
Rules
A "Shootout" is a golf format that involves a large group of people and is alot of fun. I have played this format at my local club and enjoyed watching it on TV a few years ago as the Michelob Shootout series.
These rules are based on that format and are adjusted to fit our online golf situation. There is no way to write a specific MOP that fits this scenario, so we have to make it up for ourselves.
Keep in mind this is all just for fun, but we might eventually have more formal types of competition using this format.
Rules
1. A shootout can be played with any number of players up to 8.
2. The Stroke MOP should be used.
3. Players can play at either pro or champ skill level, but all players on pro is usually faster. :-)
4. You can use either a par 3 course setup for 18 holes or a special Shootout Course. Links to download these courses can be found in the Hotline News area - for LGC Members only.
5. One player is eliminated after every hole. There are two ways to be eliminated:
- The player who shoots the highest score on the hole is eliminated. They are to immediately leave the game manually.
- If two or more players tie for the highest score on the hole, on the next tee those players have a "Shootout" or "Chip-off". The person furthest away from the hole no matter where they land after the first shot is eliminated. They are to immediately leave the game manually. Do NOT stick around and putt or play other shots. Its rude and it really slows the game down for the other players if you do this. If you are the host you have to pickup ball until the game is over.. sorry, that's the price of hosting.
- The host must be careful when a player leaves that he hits the right button. Be sure to choose the middle button which is allows the game to continue without replacing the missing player. If the host is typing in the chat area and hits return just as the player is leaving the game will end.. so be careful of this.
6. If you are playing on a shootout course - Crator Lagoon or Hickory Hills, all players NOT in the shootoff will tap the ball and pickup. Once it is determined who is eliminated everyone taps and picksup and then moves on to the next regular hole. Do NOT make your putt on a playoff hole in this format because it gives you extra practice and if you make it, you get honors on the next tee. If there is no need for a playoff, everyone taps and pickups on the tee to move to the next regular hole.
7. If you are playing on a regular Par 3 - NOT a Shootoff course, then all players play regularly on the shootoff hole and the person in the playoff who is furthest from the hole leaves the game. The others playout the hole as a regular hole. This is the quickest and most efficient to play if you aren't on an official shootout course.
8. Play continues in this manner until only one player is left. The final player left is the winner.
